KARACHI: Pakistan got off to a bad start in the women’s table tennis event as they were handed out a 3-0 defeat by South Korea in the ongoing Asian Games 2023 which are being held in Hangzhou, China.
The Green Shirts faced South Korea in their first match of Group D and lost the game in a one-sided manner.
Three matches were played against South Korea’s contingent and three one-sided wins were recorded for the Korean side.
In the first match, Jihee Jeon beat Haiqa Hassan in a one-sided encounter with the scores of 11-4, 11-2 and 11-2.
In the second encounter, Yubin Shin recorded another comfortable win for her side as she beat Hoor Fawad with the scores of 11-2, 11-4 and 11-2.
Meanwhile, the last match was won by Hyo Won Suh as she defeated Perniya Khan 11-6, 11-4 and 11-5.
18 teams are divided into six groups of three teams each from where top two teams along with the four best third-place teams will book their place in knockout rounds.
Pakistan is in Group D with South Korea and Thailand — whom they will play later today.
